An Artistic Journey
My journey into the world of art began quite early in my life. As a child, my mother, Ruth Winterbottom, taught me pastels and watercolors. I continued to nurture my love for art in my late teens, studying watercolor for three years with Edgar Whitney on Long Island.
I later pursued a degree in advertising art from SUNY in Farmingdale, New York. After graduation, I got the opportunity to work as a staff artist for J. Walter Thompson in NYC. To further refine my skills, I took additional classes at the Art Students League of New York. During this time, many of my illustrations were sold at Henri Bendel’s.
I then switched gears a bit and worked in advertising agencies in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York as well as for a local newspaper in Burlington, Vermont. Living in Vermont gave me the wonderful opportunity to study landscape painting with Frank Mason of the Art Students League.
In recent years, my artistic journey has taken a beautiful turn. I have found immense joy and purpose in painting God's creation that surrounds me. Through my work, I aim to share the inherent beauty of the natural world that so often goes unnoticed. I believe every landscape, every creature, every rustling leaf has a story to tell and I strive to capture that in my art. Alongside nature, I've also found a creative outlet in bringing fictional characters to life by illustrating 8 children's books. Each stroke of my brush is a tribute to the beauty that God has bestowed upon us. It's been an incredible journey of discovery and sharing, and I can't wait to see where it takes me next.
Now, I'm happily settled near Indianapolis, Indiana. One of the greatest joys in my life is spending time with my daughters and grandkids. They inspire me every day and their imagination and curiosity often find a way into my creations.
